KINGSPORT — Senior striker Raphael Teixeira scored a pair of goals, including the game winner in the 70th minute, as Elizabethton held on against KACHEA, 3-2, on the road Monday night.
Teixeira scored in the game’s seventh minute with an assist from Ashton Stevens, but the Wildcats got the equalizer just a few minutes later.
EHS pulled ahead to a 2-1 lead on a goal by Nathan LaPorte — assisted by Darion Simerly — giving the Cyclones a lead that would hold up through halftime.
KACHEA scored on a defensive mistake by EHS as the ’Cats scored an own goal as a bouncing ball eluded the Cyclone goalkeeper and tied the score at 2-2.
“It was a play where the ball floated into the box and no one really picked it up on defense,” said Cyclones head coach Bill McClay. “It went to the keeper who was caught in between and when he tried to kick it out it went in off his shin.”
The Cyclones got the game winner from Teixeira, who scored his 19th of the season. It was his second straight game with two goals.
“We played pretty well tonight,” McClay said. “There was a stretch after our second goal that we let down a little bit, but we took care of business in the end and got a good win.”
The win improves EHS to 8-6 overall and the Cyclones finish the regular season for 2012 at Sullivan South on Thursday. The JV contest will open at 4:30 p.m., followed by the varsity match at 6.
