Elizabethton and Johnson County were nearing a halfway point. The weather had other plans for Monday’s Three Rivers Conference tilt at Joe O’Brien Field.
The Cyclones led 1-0 when play was called at 7:08 p.m. after a one-hour and 10-minute weather stoppage.
A stream of rains, which build large puddles upon the field’s tarp, combined with thunder and lightning were deemed too much to overcome.
The game will be resumed at a later date to be determined.
Elizabethton starter Wes Montgomery had a perfect game going on the mound through the first 10 batters when play was stopped in the top of the fourth inning. Montgomery had struck out three batters with seven retired on fielding efforts by the Cyclones.
Montgomery had Elizabethton’s only hit in the first two innings as Johnson County’s Andy Woods and his defense gave the home team a tough go of it.
Things started looking up for the home team in the third inning.
Connor Campbell led off with a single, but the Longhorns worked its way to a two-out situation with the Cyclone on second.
Chad Pritchard provided the answer with an RBI single to right-center to give the home team a 1-0 lead by the end of the stanza.
Elizabethton travels to John Battle (Va.) today.
